WORKSHOPS FOR SEPT – NOV 2004

Leicester Haymarket Theatre announces its vision for the future with a programme of exciting and diverse work, in a variety of locations in and around Leicester and beyond.

The focus of the work is on a fully integrated programme of theatre productions and associated participatory events united by shared themes. Our programme of work will be facilitated by arts practitioners working within the theatre, or professional artists directly linked with the shows themselves.

To Kill a Mockingbird Workshops:

‘You never really understand a person… until you climb into his skin and walk around it’
These drama-based activities offer a unique opportunity for students to work with professional actors from the To Kill a Mockingbird company. The workshops explore prejudice, injustice and other themes contained within Harper Lees classic novel. Ideal for any school studying the novel at GCSE.

Citizenship Workshops:

‘Seeing People as People’
Interactive half-day event designed to give students an opportunity to think about and address important issues around racism. These workshops explore key scenes from the play Colour of Justice by Richard Norton-Taylor. The play is a dramatic reconstruction based on the transcripts of the 1998 public enquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence. Ideal for anyone looking at different ways to deliver Citizenship programmes. Suitable for KS3 and KS4

A mythical tale which will tour to primary schools across Leicester. Nicholae and Ayesha face their fears in order to bring their mum back from a place where she has lost her mind.

Creating a Biography

From ways of interviewing to organizing the information into a publicly available form, these half-day workshops focus on the process of creating or staging a biography. Suitable for A/AS level. Students should see Living Pretty also (6–9 Oct LHT Studio Theatre)

Personal and Social Development Workshops

Yellow Earth Theatre is a London-based international touring company, which produces highly visual, text based performance using physical, vocal and visual traditions of East and West.

The workshops examine issues around migration, history, heritage and ambition. Suitable for students from KS3 upwards.
